What To Do With Smooth Red Bumps On The Skin?
As you know, we had asked you to write in with your questions and queries concerning your skin.
Who doesn’t have questions, right?
What’s wonderful is that even professionals get stumped every once in awhile concerning their clients’ skin, which is the question we’re answering in today’s post.
You’ll notice that we’ll be posting more and more questions people have and providing answers right here on our blog…of course we still encourage you to keep writing and asking. After all, that’s what we’re here for!
So, here we go!
Dear Derma Divas-
One lady [client] I had used to break out (normal pimples) in the cheek area…lymph node/cheek bone area. Now her skin is clear. [She has] soft but smooth, red bumps that are only visible WITHOUT makeup. As if it’s under the skin? She has exfoliated…no result. Tried many different things. What is the cause of this?
Kate
Well Kate, there are a few things going on here.
First let’s look at the area the break outs were occuring…
Accoring to the art of ‘face mapping’ (an Asian diagnostic ‘tool’ for the body where different areas of the face represent the interal areas of the body), break outs in those areas are related to respiratory distress.
Asian cultures believe that many parts of our bodies (feet, hands, ears, spine, face, etc.) reflect or correspond to different organs in the body.
If the person is a smoker or suffers from allergies, congestion can show in those areas you mentioned.
The red, smooth spots you describe are most likely the remnants of pimples. Those pimples produced an inflammation in the skin, causing what is called ‘post-inflammatory pigmentation’ and according to the color of the person’s skin (in this case your client’s skin was probably very fair), this pigmentation can be different shades from red to brown.
After the pimple is healed, it may take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to disappear.
In this case, here is what we would recommend to diminish the pigmentation and treat/prevent further break outs:
- Exfoliation with a mild glycolic peel (or a lactic peel if they’re very sensitive) would be the first step in their facial treatment with you (either of these exfoliants are better than a scrub). For home use they should continue using a light glycolic treatment 1 to 2 times per week in between their facials (we like Philosopy Oxygen Peel).
- Exfoliation is good because it helps get rid of the accumulation of dead cells that is clogging the pores and not allowing the skin to breathe properly. This traps more toxins inside and diminishes the oxygen intake that helps nourish the cells and kill bacteria.
- Oxygenation of the skin should follow after exfoliation. You want to use serums and moisturizers that contain stabilized hydrogen peroxide. We recommend Karin Herzog’s Vita-A-Kombi moisturizer because it helps the delivery of oxygen, water and vitamins A and E. It’s for normal, combination and sensitive or dry skin…
- Another ingredient that helps oxygenate the skin is Tissue Respiratory Factor (sacchromyces ceverisiae -say that ten times fast!) It’s contained in yeast extract and is efficient in trapping oxygen, which is essential in keeping the skin youthful and glowing. This is the main ingredient in DDF’s Dramatic Radiance TRF moisturizer.
- Nutritional supplements that support the digestive system, such as digestive enzymes, in combination with acidophilus or bifidus, will help in replenishing the friendly bacteria in the digestive tract.
- To give well-rounded advice concerning the treatment of breakouts we also recommend that your client get Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LMD). The lymph system in the body helps clean the body’s tissues and reinforces the immune system. It’s important to make sure though that the person performing the Lymph Drainage is certified to do so. A lot of professionals claim to do LDM but in reality it’s just a regular massage. LMD is a highly specialized massage (extremely light in pressure with a lot of pulsating moves) that needs to be certified by a reputable school. Dr. Vodder from Austria was the pioneer in this technique.
We hope that helps you in treating and recommending treatment for your client’s concerns!
To your (and your client’s) skin’s health!

I would prefer natural treatments, herbal that is. I just can not trust the names of those chemicals and procedures. Just sharing my opinion.

Hello Rye!
We appreciate your feedback! There are many people that prefer natural/organic/herbal remedies. Although we mostly recommend products that effectively use nature for ingredients that mimic the skin’s molecular structure to obtain results, we understand where you’re coming from.
Just keep in mind that unless one is creating products directly in their kitchen, most products still have to go through a laboratory and some type of procedure before it is packaged. Also consider that the more ‘raw’ a product is, the more preservatives may be needed to keep them fresh for a longer period of time (there are a few instances where this may not be the case).
Skin care lines like Eminence have managed to make fairly effective products using only organic fruits and vegetables (and you can pronounce every ingredient on their list!)
If you have any further questions or comments, you know where to reach us. We’re here to serve you!

“Asian cultures believe that many parts of our bodies reflect or correspond to different organs in the body”. I strongly believe in this statement. The imbalances in the organs, nervous system and hormones, are always reflected in the skin. It is one of the alarm systems of the human body.

Hello Peter;
It’s wonderful you know that! My clients tend to get so focused on the superficial part of skin care and health (topical applications), but it’s true. Not only is the skin a reflection of the internal state of the body, but it can also tell you what and where the problem is.
For example: a lot of my female clients will complain about breakouts on their chin, which corresponds typically with their menstrual cycle…why? Because the chin reflects the reproductive/hormonal area. This may also be a place where women who have recently changed their birth control or after pregnancy (when hormones are trying to stabilize), will break out or complain of acne they’ve never had before.
Acne and breakouts on the cheeks and jawline area reflect digestive issues. To these clients, I recommend cleaning up the eating a bit (at least drink more water!) and I also recommend adding a digestive enzyme (found at your local supplement store) to their meals to aid in breaking down the food more effectively. It would realistically take a month or two of consistently taking these supplements (as directed) for a significant change to occur. I know people get impatient and want immediate results, but to correct a problem from the inside, out, it will be gradual but longlasting.

I think either griseofulvin, or fluconazole will get rid of your nail candida. Each of these drugs are already used for lots of years and have been extensively verified safe and efficient. I work in a drug organization so I ought to know. By the way Indian companies make the cheapest and best medicines these days anyway.
