Is There A Correct Way To Massage An Eye Cream?

I’ve seen and heard it a million times: “just take your ring finger and gently pat your eye cream under your eyes…don’t want to stretch that skin out!”

I admit, it drives me bonkers.

You’ve heard this before, right?

…and it’s most likely how you apply your eye cream, right?

Well, I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that’s bo-gus! (actually I’m not sorry because that means I’m going to teach you the correct way of doing it!)

We just discussed why it’s important to massage in an eye cream in our last post, but I’ll re-cap:

  • Basically penetration only occurs when there’s heat in the skin.
  • Massage increases the micro-circulation in the skin and with increased blood flow comes heat.
  • Patting and therefore leaving cream on the skin actually decreases the absorption.

That’s it in a nutshell.

But now the question is (once patting has been thrown out the window)

Is there a proper way to massage an eye cream?

The answer is, yes.

How do you do it?

It’s very simple:

  • Firstly, you do want to apply serums and/or eye creams on the brow bone and the crease in the eye, as well and under the eyes.
  • Begin closer to the nose and work your way outward, following the curve of the bone. Repeat this until the product absorbs.
    • This will actually help with moving the circulation under the eyes if you have dark circles, and move fluids out if you suffer from puffiness.
    • Please note: Puffiness and dark circles are typically hereditary and there is no magic cream that will make them disappear forever. Effective products can help improve the appearance of these and massaging the products in this fashion will increase the results.
    • If you naturally have darker skin, the appearance of the dark circles could actually be due to darker pigmentation under the eyes.
  • Don’t worry about pulling the skin. As long as you have lubrication, your finger should glide. Once it feels like its beginning to pull, or you no longer feel the same slip, it means your product has penetrated.

There you go, mission accomplished!

So go and try this out! You’ll probably begin noticing your serums and eye creams working better and better!

Let us know what you think, will ya?

You know we love to hear from you…

To your skin’s health!
